Poppy -- Mission Accomplished!

Poppy is officially glorified in her beads! I so enjoyed making an art doll so I know she won't be my last.

Most of the beads were gifted to me along with the doll form from a dear blogfriend, Lisa. Hence the large "L" on her back. The green disk beads are vintage as are the butterflies gracing the front and back of her skirt. The skirt is supposed to be a field of poppies, but its a bit blurred, I admit.

She has 'sunshine' on her shoulders (....makes me happy - come on, sing along, you know John Denver is running through your brain right now)And her shirt is representing blue skies. Her hair is supposed to be a bit ugly, as poppies aren't the prettiest plant when they aren't in bloom.

Now if I can just stop holding her, I can keep working on my next cuff bracelet, which will be a nod to "The Kiss" by Gustav Klimt.

Another Distraction !

As IF I needed another distraction --look what I brought home from my hairdresser's:

I couldn't resist. Of course, not sure when or if my husband will actually speak to me again. But Renee (my hairdresser) rescued a box of 6 kittens she found abandoned, and how could I not take one home??!

He is soooo tiny. Fits in the palm of my hand. By the way he eats, I'm thinking that's not going to last much longer :) Still haven't come up with a name yet. Renee called him "Fly" because the poor thing had a fly bite on his neck with some sort of nasty larve -yuk - he's alright now; just a small spot on his shoulder. Hannah was calling him Caesar, Meg called him Miko, and Claire likes Rainy (our other cat, also gray, is called Cloudy). We better come up with something soon or the poor thing will have an identity crisis.

But hey, look at this - I finished one of my many UFOs, so maybe he isn't such a distraction after all!

This is the skirt that was the inspiration for the cuff. It's a crazy mix of colors, but I have to say it is my favorite thing in my closet. It's actually reversible. The other side is a snakeskin print in teal, cream and brown. Sounds hideous, but it's not.

My friend Joan hosts these home clothing parties (oh stop, I can hear the groans now!) from a line called Cabi. I usually run the other way when I hear home party, but I love this line of clothing. Everytime I go, I want to buy the entire collection. She's hosting another one for the Fall line this month - better start saving my nickles!

Focus Lynn!

Well I'm having a hard time pulling myself away from a pair of socks I'm knitting, but I have done some beading. I feel like I'm ping-ponging between a few projects and not getting much accomplished. Frustrating.

I made up this bracelet as a sample for a class I taught recently. It started with no plan (as usual) and then it seemed to evolve into a little garden path once I stitched on the square cube beads. So I 'grew' some flowers along the path and filled in the rest. I can't say I'm a big fan of purple, but boy I sure do seem to have a billion shades of purple beads in my stash!

And then since I was in bracelet mode and I have this skirt with really unusual colors in it that I never have anything to wear with, I started on this bracelet.

And now back to my art doll, Poppy--is your head spinning yet?

Her lower half is complete and she has some loopy fringe, but I'm at a loss as to how to finish her. I'm thinking she needs spiky 'hair' on the back of her head, since poppies are covered in soft bristles. I have no plan for her top half yet, but I do think it needs to be smooth, since the bottom is very textured. I'm thinking to incorporate some yellow, since all flowers need sun,but not still not sure. Stumped.

Oh, and did I mention I have not 1, but 2 double spine bracelets started??? Good heavens! FOCUS LYNN!

Oh, and then there's my life box, and my "the kiss" cuff bracelet and ........never mind. You get the picture.
