After contemplating (yet again) on joining the Bead Journal Project, and keeping in mind I just gave up on the Haute Couture Challenge, I've decided to throw caution to the wind and COMMIT to it!
I'm thinking since the BJP is more of a personal challenge rather than a 'competition' where your work is judged, that I'll enjoy it. It's definitely more my style.

It's hard to explain. But I just like beading for the sake of beading - not to prove that my work is better than someone elses. Do you know what I mean? Or do you like the validation you get from competitions?

Lynn, I prefer to create my art because I want to and not for validation..don't get me wrong, it's WONDERFUL if someone sees my work and tells me how nice they 'think' it is..but competitions aren't really my thing. To be honest, I don't even care if my work is even on exhibit. I get SO much pleasure from just creating art..art, when I want and what I want. Yes, I do challenges with my fiber friends, but again, if I decide I don't want to do a piece, I don't have to! Gotta love that!
I've been tossing that idea around, too. I think if my pieces are not too large, I can handle it!
While I do appreciate compliments from people, I never enter judged competitions for the kudos.
So glad you are joining us this year. Journaling is far different than a competition, though it is a personal challenge for sure. I think you will enjoy it for sure.
I'm not big on competitions. Everyone sees your art differantly. I belong to the Etsy Beadweavers and they have a big monthly competition. Sometimes I agree with the concensus, but other times I think some other piece might have been better.
Our taste in art is so personal - who can say what is better than another?
I also LOVE beading just for the fun of it. It's my "Therapy".
LOVE your frame.

Oh Yeah, Glad you're joining Bead Journal. Me too.

I think I tend to agree with you about doing it for self satisfaction. Its nice to hear though that people like your work. You make lovely pieces by the way!

i think you will really enjoy it, lynn! you are right...there is nothing to prove. it's purely for your own self-satisfaction of having completed a beautiful beading project that means something to you. unfortunately, i won't be joining. i fell out this year about half way through because of my hands, so i know there is no way i could do it again. but i am so excited to see what you come up with. i think i must be your biggest fan. i think everything you do is stunning. can't wait!
I know exactly what you mean, lynn! Our local bead shop used to have a yearly challenge called, Creation Not Competition, just to emphasize the point.
I really know what you mean. I wanted to the haute couture just to be challenged by it and because I love both...couture and beading. I didn't like my work being judged at all. I did, however, enjoy the challenge and seeing all the beautiful submissions. But, unless a dress really calls to me next year...I most likely won't do it again....
Glad you're going to bjp...me too.
